The way ahead in Afghanistan
The Foreign Secretary, attending President Karzai's inauguration in Kabul on 19 November 2009, spoke of the "contract between the Afghan government and the international community that must be honoured" during an interview. Building on the Prime Minister's foreign policy speech at the Lord Mayor's Banquet, Mr Miliband focused on the long term future of Afghanistan and the importance of aligning military operations with "a clear political strategy" during his speech to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly on 17 November 2009.
