UK Defence Secretary, Des Browne, attended a meeting of NATO Defence Ministers from 14 to 15 June 2007 at NATO HQ, Brussels, Belgium. Ministers discussed a range of issues including NATO Transformation, Missile Defence, Afghanistan and Kosovo.
 
During the two day meeting, Afghanistan's Defence Minister, Abdul Rahim Wardak attended a special session of the North Atlantic Council with nations contributing to ISAF. Allies underlined their continued commitment to the mission in Afghanistan, noted the progress that has already been made and stressed the importance of Afghan ownership of security issues.
 
Defence Ministers met the new Russian Minister of Defence, Anatoly Serdyukov, in the framework of the NATO-Russia Council (NRC). The NATO Russia Founding Act enjoys its 10th anniversary next month and the NRC remains a key forum for open discussions with Russia on issues of common concern.  Ministers also met the Ukrainian Defence Minister, Anatoliy Grytsenko, in the framework of the NATO Ukraine Commission (NUC), which also celebrates its tenth anniversary, to discuss progress in Ukraine's Defence Reform.
