United Kingdom Defence Academy - Partnership for Peace (PfP) Training and Education Centre

United Kingdom Defence Academy (UKDA)

On the 21st November 2007, the United Kingdom Defence Academy (UKDA), Shrivenham, was officially recognised as a NATO Partnership for Peace (PfP) Training and Education Centre.  The Academy became the fourteenth centre to join the EAPC/PfP community.

The UKDA have now made their current courses and facilities in support of the training and education of Governance and Leadership available to NATO and PfP nations.  They have also developed a course to support Building Integrity in Defence Establishments within the framework of the Partnership Action Plan for Defence Institution Building (PAP-DIB).

The aim of the course will be to strengthen the foundation for leadership, integrity, good governance and management within the defence and security sectors of Partner nations and transitional democracies.  It has been developed in collaboration with NATO International Staff and other organisations with expertise in this field, including the NATO School in Oberammergau and Transparency International (UK).

The plan is to have three pilot courses during 2008, the first of which took place at the UKDA on 21-25 July. The course forms part of the UK, Poland and Switzerland led Trust for Building Integrity & Reducing Corruption Risk in Defence Establishments, which was launched on 8th May 2008.  Subject to a successful series of pilots, the course will be validated and accredited by NATO by January 2009 and will subsequently be offered as a standard NATO course.
